Why become a volunteer?

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to support our mission at APAD. Whether you’re helping directly with the dogs, supporting events, or working behind the scenes, your time and dedication can help give our dogs a second chance at life.

💖 Our commitment – and yours

We welcome people from all backgrounds who want to help – and we deeply value consistency and commitment. Our dogs rely on familiar faces, stable routines, and the trust they build with those who care for them.

As a volunteer-run organization, managing the shelter and coordinating daily tasks is a big job. That’s why we ask all volunteers to approach their role with responsibility and heart.

You’ll receive training and ongoing support, and we hope you can commit to a regular schedule that helps our dogs feel safe and calm. Some need focused attention and gentle structure to prepare for life in a home.

🕒 How volunteering works

👉 Dog Companion

Being a dog companion is more than just walking. It’s about helping a dog feel safe, calm, and stress-free – and being someone they can trust.

🐾 Dog Training

If you have experience or interest in training, you can help dogs with leash skills, commands, or confidence-building. All training is coordinated with the team.

👉 Kennel & Care

A hands-on role: cleaning kennels, feeding and walking dogs, doing dishes and laundry, and keeping things tidy.

👉 Outreach & Events

Helping at markets, donation tables, and events. Tasks include setup, talking to visitors about APAD, and encouraging donations.
